We refer to ourselves as a destination simply because of the wealth of activities we offer and that can be done in and around Petrie Island.
The Oziles' name stems from our Franco Ontarian roots. When we were growing up, we spent many days at our cottage on Petrie Island. Prior to leaving or when asked where we were headed, we would answer "aux îles" which translated means "at the islands". Thus when we were researching for a name for our destination, the play on "aux iles" became Oziles' name.
Presently, we have a store with fishing tackle, boating equipment and live bait, we also offer motor boat rentals, ice hut rentals, canoe and kayak rentals, and much more. We offer hull pressure washing, year-round storage, and have two boat ramps.
Petrie Islands are the newest addition to the city of Ottawa beaches with a few twists. It is the only one located in the east end of Ottawa, it is the largest beach in Ottawa, it is comprised of two main components, the Grandmaitre Ecological Reserve and Stuemer Beach. This trio offers many potential year round activities for outdoor enthusiasts and families! Our goal at Oziles' is to help the community utilize the local natural environment to its full potential whilst minimizing the long term impact and damage to nature itself. To do this we have adopted several strategies:
